Akord Kvint - Luboš Deraha Concert Violin No. 59 Stradivari Model
The sound quality of string musical instruments that have a wooden resonance body is determined not only by the musician’s performance and the quality of the strings, but by the overall construction built from many parts. Besides the quality of the wood used, it also depends on the shape, thickness, manufacturing, and lacquering of the instrument.
The exceptional nature of concert instruments produced in Akord Kvint’s workshop in Luby, Czech Republic—founded in 1991—is due to the credentials of its master luthiers, the quality of the wood, and the meticulous surface finish. All student and concert violins, violas, and cellos are built by luthiers and master luthiers.
This team carries out all of the above-mentioned processes at the highest level. Thanks to Akord Kvint’s worldwide dealer network, the instruments are popular and can be obtained at a reasonable price by talented students, professionals, and hobbyists alike.
Our production model allows us to safely and efficiently pass on knowledge and experience from generation to generation, preserving the local tradition of string-instrument making. We are proud to be cultivating the fourth generation of luthiers—masters in their field—evolving from the group around Josef Holpuch through Karel Poplštein, on to Jan Lorenz and Jan Fronk, and now to Luboš Deraha and Pavel Mosbauer.
Qualification
All staff in our company are skilled luthiers, many of whom have achieved the rank of master luthier. They earned their qualifications at the violin school in Luby under mentors such as Miroslav Pikart and Karel Zadrazil, and completed master courses led by Alois Sibal, Josef Dvořák, Emil Lupač, and others. They also gained valuable insights from practitioners like Josef Holpuch, Jan Lorenz, Jan Fronk, and Karel Poplštein.
Akord Kvint works closely with Prague Conservatory pedagogues—including Jaroslav Foltýn, Jaroslav Ruis, František Pišinger, and Pavel Kudelásek—who evaluate our concert and master instruments. We also collaborate with noted educators such as Ladislav Michal, Martin Slavík, Jaroslava Staňková, and Miroslav Pikhart. Our luthiers regularly attend in-house seminars where experts like Michael van Berkum, Eduard Schwen, Miroslav Petráš, Nicolas Despiau, and product specialists from Thomastik-Infeld—along with acclaimed players Attila Pasztor and Stojan Jovanović—share their experience. Last but not least, we maintain a long-standing relationship with master luthier Josef Poetzl.
